The Ultimate Guide to Working with a Walt Disney World Travel Agent

Going on a Walt Disney World vacation is magical- we truly believe that at Wish Travel Agency. I couldn’t even begin to count the amount of core memories my family has made over the years on our Disney vacations. For every holiday gathering- you can guarantee that when we sit around a reminisce- sharing stories and memories- there are going to be many tales from our Disney vacations. From the level of detail that the imagineers go into to create immersive experiences down to the cast members who bring the magic to life- Disney is truly a destination like no other.

On the flip side, it has become increasingly difficult to keep up with the frequent changes to their offerings. Whether you’ve never been on a Disney vacation before or you haven’t gone in a few years, one quick google search will quickly illuminate all that there is to learn or relearn:

“What is a Lightning Lane? Where did Fastpass go?”

“How do I know which hotel category is right for me?”

“Do I need a dining plan? Is it worth the money?”

“Do I need a park hopper ticket?”

“What’s the best way to minimize the time we have to spend waiting in lines?”

“Oh no! My daughter really wanted to do Bippidi Bobbidi Boutique but it’s booked up! I didn’t know you needed to book so far in advance!”

Each of these questions (and so many more that need answering) require real research and time to unpack. There are also the things that cannot be gleaned from reading general articles/videos that would really benefit from a customized approach for your specific family.

“I have older kids and young babies- how do I make sure we’re doing something for everyone?”

“We have two different nap schedules to consider, how can we make that work in the parks?”

“I really need to stay within my budget but we do want to skip lines and do a special dining experience, how can we save money elsewhere to allow for this?”

“Some family members aren’t super thrilled about going to Disney World for our vacation- what offerings are there that adults can get excited about?”

With so many details to consider, it can quickly become overwhelming. Working with a Disney travel agent can streamline the entire planning process, allowing you to focus on the fun while we handle the logistics. Here’s a thorough look at the process of working with a Walt Disney World travel agent, from start to finish.

And one more thing before we dive in- the MOST important thing to know is that all of the  services below are FREE! So how do we get paid? Disney has already baked in compensation for travel agents into their prices. If you don’t work with an agent, that money simply goes back to Disney. If you do work with us, Disney pays it out to your agent.   So whether you’d love for us to take some of the planning off of your plate or you love doing it all yourself- booking with us is a great way to support our business with no financial impact to you. We are happy to be as involved as you want us to be- this is about you after all!

Okay- so now that that’s out of the way, let’s get into what it’s like to work with us for Disney Destinations:

                  Walt Disney World

                  Disneyland

                  Disney Cruise Line

                  Adventures by Disney

1. Initial Consultation: Getting to Know You and Your Disney Goals

The process starts with an initial consultation where the agent gets to know your vision for the trip. During this step, the agent will ask questions about your group size, travel dates, and the type of experience you’re looking for. Do you want an action-packed adventure, a relaxing retreat, or a balance of both? Are you traveling with young kids, teens, or just adults? Do you have special occasions to celebrate? Are you early risers or night owls?

This step allows your agent to understand your specific Disney “wish list” and preferences, such as:

  • Preferred dates and length of stay
  • Favorite Disney characters or movies (great for personalizing experiences)
  • Any specific parks, attractions, or restaurants you want to visit
  • Your budget and accommodation preferences

With this foundation, they can start tailoring options that match your unique vision for the trip.

Depending on what you decide on with your agent- this could be a call, email, or text exchange. To get the ball rolling- you can complete our contact form to have an agent reach out to you directly.

And if you don’t know the answer to some of these questions- that is totally okay! We are happy to make recommendations based on our years of expertise.

2. Customizing Your Package: Accommodations, Tickets, and Dining

Once your agent understands your goals and preferences, they start customizing your Disney package:

  • Resort Selection: Disney World offers a wide range of accommodations, from budget-friendly Value Resorts to the luxurious Deluxe Resorts. Your agent will provide recommendations based on your style, budget, and group size. They’ll discuss the benefits of each, like proximity to parks, pool amenities, and unique themes.
  • Ticketing Options: Your agent will explain the various ticket types, such as Park Hopper options and single-day tickets, helping you select the best fit for your plans. They’ll also clarify whether special add-ons like Memory Make or Multi-Pass are worth it based on your group’s priorities.
  • Dining Recommendations: The Disney Dining Plan can make your vacation package “all-inclusive” of meals if that is something you’re interested in! Since popular dining spots fill up quickly, your agent can handle reservations to secure spots in advance.
  • Travel Insurance: We offer travel insurance through Travel Insured that can provide comprehensive trip coverage from start to finish at a low cost. This is particularly helpful if you’re travelling to multiple destinations- like Disney AND Universal (which we also book!)

Once everything’s tailored to your liking, they’ll present a comprehensive quote that includes accommodation options, ticket details, and any additional extras you’ve discussed.

3. Booking and Confirming the Details

Once you’re happy with the proposed plan, your Disney travel agent takes care of all the booking. We’ll invite you to our client portal and use the details you provide to reserve your hotel room, purchase your park tickets, and reserve any other paid add-ons. We’ll also monitor for any special deals or discounts that could apply to your trip, helping you save wherever possible.

For some destinations, there are advanced booking windows where you reserve certain experiences like Signature Dining, Bippiddi Bobbidi Boutique, golf, VIP tours and more! This takes place very early in the morning, so this is a major perk of working with an agent. Let us wake up early and take care of this on your behalf!

4. Planning Magical Extras and Personalized Itineraries

Disney vacations are all about the details. Your travel agent will help you explore options for magical extras that can elevate your experience, such as:

  • Special Events: From Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party to After Hours events, your agent can secure tickets to seasonal events that offer unique shows, parades, and lower ride wait times.
  • Experiences: Interested in character meet-and-greets, VIP tours, or behind-the-scenes experiences? Your agent can arrange these experiences to create special moments your family will never forget.
  • Personalized Itineraries: Disney travel agents excel at crafting daily itineraries that balance fun with flexibility. They’ll recommend the best times for popular rides, shows, and parades, maximizing your day without the stress.

Your agent can also build in downtime or rest spots, like favorite snack locations and entertainment breaks, to keep everyone in the group happy and energized.

5. Preparing You for Your Trip: Tips, Tricks, Packing Lists, and Custom Itineraries

In the weeks leading up to your trip, your Disney travel agent will make sure you’re fully prepared. They’ll provide essential Disney travel tips, like navigating the latest lien skipping systems (this has been changing so frequently), using the My Disney Experience app, and understanding park security protocols. We can even provide packing checklists, especially helpful for first-time visitors, so you’re ready for Florida weather and prepared with essentials like comfortable shoes and sunscreen.

We’ll also guide you on how to make the most of Disney’s transportation options, and they’ll remind you about check-in procedures for your trip, especially if you plan to use Disney’s Online Check-In.

6. On-Trip Support: Your Disney Concierge

One of the biggest perks of using a Disney travel agent is having on-trip support. If you have any issues during your trip—whether it’s a last-minute dining cancellation, a question about your resort, or a need for alternative plans due to weather—your travel agent is just a call or text away. They can help you adjust plans and ensure that your trip stays on track, providing the peace of mind that you’re not on your own.

7. Post-Trip Follow-Up

When you return home, your travel agent will likely reach out for a follow-up, allowing you to share highlights and any feedback about your trip. This conversation helps the agent tailor future recommendations and improve your next Disney experience, ensuring each visit becomes more magical than the last.

If you’ve used Memory Maker, we can walk you through accessing your photos, so you can relive the best moments from your trip.

California Grill: A Premier Dining Experience

Introduction

Located within Disney’s Contemporary Resort, California Grill specializes in fresh, seasonal dishes with a creative twist, blending Californian and international flavors. This visit was a special occasion, celebrating a birthday, and California Grill’s stunning sunset views made it truly feel like a dining experience for a special occasion.

The important thing to note before proceeding with this review is that the menu at California Grill changes often! The chef places an emphasis on innovating with seasonal ingredients. Although the exact dishes that we will discuss below may not be available, I have full trust that the menu will continue to wow.

Ambiance and Setting

The first thing you notice when you step into the space is the floor-to-ceiling windows that offer panoramic views of Magic Kingdom and the Seven Seas Lagoon.  Looking inside, the room was very warmly lit (golden hour!) and the overall ambiance was very nice as a result. The furnishings- like carpet, furniture, and curtains, could use some updating. Watching the sunset was beautiful and knowing that diners can step outside to view the evening fireworks adds an additional special and exclusive touch to the experience.

Service

From the moment we were seated, the service at California Grill stood out. Our waitress was not only knowledgeable and attentive but also had a great sense of humor, making us feel welcomed and well cared for throughout the meal. She provided thoughtful recommendations and ensured that each course arrived with perfect timing, allowing us to enjoy each dish at a relaxed pace.

Food and Drink

The meal began with a delightful bread service featuring warm rolls served with salted butter and a seasoned sun-dried tomato olive oil for dipping. The olive oil was particularly flavorful and set the tone for the rest of the meal- there was a flavor bomb waiting in every dish.

  • Appetizers: We started with two of their signature sushi rolls—the Surf and Turf Roll and the Barbecue Eel Roll. Both were outstanding, beautifully presented, and bursting with fresh flavors. The Barbeque Eel Roll, which is not something I had eaten before, truly blew me away. The dish was so fresh and filled with umami.
  • Entrees: For the main course, we ordered the AAA Ahi Tuna and the Oak Grilled Filet of Beef. The Ahi Tuna was perfectly seared and had an incredible flavor, while the Oak Grilled Filet of Beef was tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. The Tuna was quite literally bursting with flavor. Reading the dish description on the menu does nothing to sell the truly unique and interesting flavors that this dish contains. It truly must be tasted to be understood!
  • Dessert: Dessert was a lovely way to end the meal. We both got the Lemon Mousse with Olive-Oil Poppyseed Cake, which was light and flavorful, striking a nice balance of sweetness with a touch of zest. As a birthday treat, the restaurant also brought out a slice of birthday cake, a thoughtful gesture that added a celebratory touch.
  • Drinks: We each ordered an Old Fashioned, which was expertly crafted and complemented our meal perfectly.

Price and Value

While California Grill leans toward the higher end, the quality of the food, impeccable service, and incredible views made it well worth the splurge for a celebratory dinner. The portions were generous, and every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented, making it a memorable experience that justified the cost.

Highlights and Areas for Improvement

  • Standout Experiences: The highlight of the evening (outside of the food) was undoubtedly the stunning view and the attentive service. Watching the sunset over Magic Kingdom while enjoying each course was a magical experience. However, we did not stay for the fireworks but had we I’m confident that that would have been the highlight. You can return for the fireworks even if your reservation is earlier in the night. Just hang on to that receipt to show to gain access to the restaurant elevator when you return!
  • Room for Improvement: The restaurant is slightly outdated. The quality of the food and the overall experience compensates for this in my opinion, but I’d love to see the dining room updated to reflect the caliber of the rest of the experience.

Final Verdict

California Grill is a Disney restaurant, but I file it under great restaurants for any destination, not just a theme park. You can instantly understand the sense of pride in innovation the chef has when he’s designing dishes for this restaurant. If you’re a foodie who isn’t scared of adventurous flavor combinations that can trust a chef to create something truly special- you should absolutely dine at California Grill during your stay.

Please keep in mind that this is one of the hardest restaurants to book! Having someone else take care of your dining reservations (at 5:50 AM Eastern) is a major perk of working with a Disney Travel Agent. Reach out to us to book and let us take care of this for you! It’s truly our passion to get to know your travel party, make thoughtful recommendations based on our years of expertise, and take care of the planning details so that you can focus on the fun.

Hardest Advanced Dining Reservations to Score at Walt Disney World Resort

One of the biggest milestones in planning for a Walt Disney World Vacation is booking dining at the start of the Advanced Dining Reservation window. At approximately 5:45 AM ET, 60 days before your check in day, you can book restaurants that allow Advanced Dining Reservations for up to ten days following your check in day.

Depending on where in the world you’re located, this early start time can turn into a painfully early start time and one of the absolute best perks of booking with a Disney travel agent is having someone else take this on for you- for free!

If you think you can sleep in and book a couple hours later, you may be wrong. Depending on where you want to eat, reservations disappear within seconds of the window opening. Knowing what to go after first and on what day of your trip can be key to scoring the more difficult reservations.

There are a handful of reservations that are extremely difficult to secure due to the ratio of the demand compared to the restaurant’s capacity. In my experience, the toughest ADRs to score are (in no particular order):

Topolino’s Terrace – Riviera Resort

Specifically for breakfast, Topolino’s reservations disappear almost instantaneously at the opening of the booking window. The breakfast, unlike the dinner, includes a visit from Disney pals Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy- all dressed in their best artist attire.

In my opinion, the demand at Toplino’s is majorly fueled by the quality of the food. This is a restaurant that has GREAT food not just great THEME PARK food. When it comes to character dining options, the same cannot be said for every restaurant.

Woody’s Roundup Rodeo BBQ – Hollywood Studio’s

The newness of this restaurant and the fun theming continue to generate a very high demand. I think this one will ease up as the years go on, but for now it remains a challenging reservation, especially if you want a prime meal time.

Reviews of the food itself are mixed. I think this has to do with where you’re from and how much you protect the definition of “barbeque,” but many really enjoy this family style offering!

Cinderella’s Royal Table – Magic Kingdom

This has been one of the most difficult reservations to get since the dawn of the reservation system. A character meal with princesses INSIDE of Cinderella’s Castle? It doesn’t get much more Disney than that and families flock to this experience as a result.

California Grill – Contemporary Resort

Here we have another option with a stunning menu that gets rave reviews from foodies! It even gets a nod in the Michelin Guide! Especially among our adult parties, California Grill wows with its menu and it’s perfect views of the Magic Kingdom resort.

Couple this dining experience with a time frame that allows you to see the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom while you dine and you’ve got the perfect dinner to celebrate a special occasion.

Be Our Guest – Magic Kingdom

Although it’s not quite as insane as it was right after it opened, Be Our Guest remains a very tough reservation to score. The beautiful theming of the restaurant places this restaurant at the very top of many guests lists.

Shockingly- you can’t actually meet Belle during this meal but you can spot the Beast walking through the Grand Ballroom, West Wing, and Library of his castle while you dine.

 Space 220 – EPCOT

A new joiner to the scene- Space 220 continues to command a place on this list. Themed around dining on a space station, you can enjoy a space themed menu while enjoying sweeping panoramic views of space “high above” EPCOT after a quick ride on the space elevator.

I expect this one to wane as the reviews of the food are never stellar (pun intended) but for now it remains a tough one.

Ohana – Polynesian Resort

Many years after opening, this family style dining offering remains a beloved choice with many repeat diners.

This is another option with a great view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks as well. Additionally, many of the items on the menu have their own fan clubs- like the noodles that were removed from the menu and brought back due to guest outrage!

Our travel agents have several tricks up their sleeves to secure these tough-to-get reservations. Even if we can’t score them right at 60 days, we continuously check availability to increase our odds of scooping up a cancellation right up until your trip.

If you prefer sleeping to a heart pounding, world clock countdown mad dash for booking in the wee hours of the morning- let us know! We include this standard as part of our free service as Disney travel agents. Reach out to us today and check this task off your list- we’ve got you covered!

Dining Review: Topolino’s Terrace Character Breakfast

Dining with Disney Characters at Topolino’s Terrace

Nestled at the top of Disney’s Riviera Resort, Topolino’s Terrace offers a stellar character breakfast that’s perfect for both foodies and families. Combining gourmet dining with the classic charm of Disney’s beloved characters, this experience is a must for anyone looking for something truly special during their Disney vacation.

Ambiance and Setting

A Sophisticated Yet Comfortable Atmosphere

As soon as you step inside Topolino’s Terrace, you’re greeted by a bright and elegant dining space with beautiful views of the Walt Disney World Resort. The ambiance feels upscale yet welcoming, making it perfect for both adults who appreciate good food and families with young children. The added bonus of meeting Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy dressed in chic, themed outfits makes the experience even more magical.

Service

Attentive and Friendly

From the moment we arrived, the service at Topolino’s Terrace was top-notch. We were warmly welcomed by the hostess and seated promptly. Our server was attentive, taking time to explain the menu and make excellent recommendations. We dined during one of the last slots of the morning, and due to this the character interactions were very fast. Our dishes also arrived very quickly- almost too quickly- as at times it did feel a little rushed. I will attribute to this to being a later seating- the restaurant was partially empty by that point so the chefs and characters had less people to take care of.

Food and Drink

A Breakfast Fit for Foodies and Families Alike

Topolino’s Terrace is known for elevating traditional breakfast fare, and the dishes certainly lived up to their reputation. We ordered the Wood-Fired Steak and Eggs and the Sour Cream Waffle, and both were absolutely incredible.

  • The Pastry Service: When you sit down at Topolino’s your server prompt delivers a basket of assorted pastries for you to get started on while overlooking the menu. An assortment of toppings come along side it, and it can be fun (and delicious) to mix and match the pairings.
  • Wood-Fired Steak and Eggs: The steak was perfectly cooked and the scrambled eggs (you can choose to have your eggs any style) were so creamy and flavorful. The roasted potatoes on the side were crispy and well-seasoned, making the dish feel hearty and satisfying without being too heavy. The mushrooms and braised onions were actually my favorite part of the dish and I think anyone, even someone who doesn’t normally want to eat their veggies, would love them.
  • Sour Cream Waffle: This dish was an absolute standout! The waffle was light and please don’t let the sour cream scare you! If anything, it maybe added a slight tang to the dish which was an unexpected but delightful twist. Topped with fruit, homemade whipped cream, and a touch of powdered sugar, it was sweet without being overpowering—ideal for both adults and kids.

For drinks, we enjoyed freshly brewed coffee, which was constantly refilled, and refreshing juices. The menu caters well to all tastes, offering a mix of sweet and savory options with a refined twist.

Price and Value

An Investment in Experience and Quality

While Topolino’s Terrace leans on the pricier side for breakfast (as is often the case with Disney’s character meals), the experience felt worth every penny. Not only was the food of high quality, but the setting and character interactions added significant value, especially for families with young children. For food lovers, the attention to culinary detail makes it feel more than just a character meal—it’s a true dining experience.

Highlights and Areas for Improvement

Highlights:

  • Food Quality: The Wood-Fired Steak and Eggs and Sour Cream Waffle were the stars of the show. The combination of flavors and quality ingredients made each dish truly exceptional.
  • Character Interactions: The characters were engaging, playful, and took their time at each table. Watching my daughter light up as Mickey and friends danced and waved was unforgettable.
  • Ambiance: The rooftop setting with panoramic views of the resort are truly special. This is one of my favorite views across property. Although it’s even better during the dinner seating, when you can go outside to watch fireworks!

Areas for Improvement:
Honestly, it’s hard to find much to critique. If anything, reservations are too hard to get, so it’s best to plan far in advance if you want to secure a spot. Dining reservations open at 6:00 AM eastern time, but Disney often opens them at 5:50, or maybe 6:03, or 6:14… my point is they can be inconsistent and Disney does not shine in the tech department. The early hours and glitches can make what should be a ten minute activity an hour plus long ordeal that often ends in disappointment! One of the most beneficial perks of working with a Disney Travel Agent is that we wake up and take care of this on your behalf. If anything goes awry, rest assured that we continuously check and monitor for cancellations up until your arrival. If you’re planning a trip to Disney, or even if you’re recently booked, please reach out to us! We would love to take care of the early mornings and leave you with the fun.

Final Verdict

Topolino’s Terrace: A Must-Visit for Families and Food Lovers

Overall, our experience at Topolino’s Terrace was nothing short of magical. Whether you’re a foodie seeking an elevated breakfast experience or a family looking for a memorable character meal, this restaurant delivers on all fronts. With incredible food, impeccable service, and the charm of Disney’s most beloved characters, I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Walt Disney World Resort.
